GameTrailers Interviews Chad Greene

You know who's awesome?  Chad Greene, that's who!  Why do I say this?  Not only were a bunch of the pictures from around San Diego Comic Con that appeared on this site taken by him, but he's also the Art Director for Red Faction: Armageddon.  Somehow he knows exactly what the underground caves on Mars look like, and re-made them within our game.

Included in the video below, Chad details some of the backstory of Red Faction: Armageddon which you may not have heard yet.  Do you know what Bastion is yet?  If not, watch the video!

Stay tuned for more interviews and other RFA information as it continues to stream in after the conclusion of San Diego Comic Con.

EGM[i] Takes On the Martian Underground

Red Faction: Armageddon is heading under the surface this time around for the first time in nearly a decade, so Marc Camron over at Electronic Gaming Monthly wanted to find out more information about the switch and the new direction that the player will experience in Armageddon.

From the article: "Volition Senior Producer Jim Boone assures the drastic move forward isn't just a gimmick: 'Now that it's taking place a couple of generation later, we feel we have a built-in story reason to [make the] weapons and vehicles feel more exotic."

Armageddon has a much deeper, futuristic feel compared to Guerrilla, and you can find out more by reading the entire preview below.  Click on the big image and it will load EGM[i], EGM's new electronic magazine distribution service, which is a pretty great way to read an entire magazine and save a few trees in the process.

So far we've only really showcased the Red Faction L.E.O. Exo suit.  What do you think the next exciting vehicle will be?

RFA Open-World Versus Story-Driven [Joystiq]

San Diego Comic Con may have closed the doors for another year, but there's still plenty of information being processed after a rest-filled weekend for all the travelers.  Today, Joystiq brings an interview with Senior Associate Producer, Dan Sutton and Writer, Drew Holmes.

To start with, two rumors are taken care of straight away:

- Will there be a sledgehammer? Yes.
- Will the Ostrich Hammer be returning? "It's up to NeoGAF," joked Holmes. "Someone will photoshop something, and then we'll be stuck."

Continuing the interview, there's a few questions about the new direction of Armageddon compared to Guerrilla.  Drew Holmes comments particularly about the inclusion of a new force to fight against.

"Our feeling was that you can only shoot guys for so long. You want something new to do. So we took what they did in Red Faction 1, and said, 'We want to bring in new enemies, how can we tie all of this fiction together?' So we build on it deeper and say that there are darker forces in the universe at work."

There's a lot more information in the full article, so click here to read the rest.

RFA Transmedia Panel Video From SDCC

On July 24th, from a conference room in San Diego, five six individuals (the writer always gets screwed) and moderator USC Professor Henry Jenkins came together to speak to the enthusiastic crowd about our upcoming plans for bringing together Red Faction: Armageddon and the Red Faction: Origins movie within the same universe.

On the 46-minute long panel, you'll hear from Danny Bilson (EVP Core Games, THQ), Lenny Brown (director IP development, THQ), Hollywood's leading Transmedia producer Jeff Gomez (Avatar, Transformers, Tron Legacy, Men In Black 3D), Alan Seiffert (SVP, Syfy Ventures), Erika Kennair (director, development, Syfy), and Andrew Kreisberg (Writer, Red Faction: Origins).

One of the best quotes heard during this panel has to be the following from Danny Bilson:

"We don't want to just build a game or a story, we're building a universe.  The key to transmedia is that it's a partnership, not just licensing a franchise and passing it off to the next medium when you're done with it."

The audio may be low in the beginning, but once you hit the 5-minute mark, it improves, so keep your hand close to the volume dial.
